Split Thy Skull Draft List

If you made it down to Mugs Alehouse on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this weekend you might still be feeling a bit hazed and confused. The bar known for its classic interior, no frills ambiance, and excellent beer selection certainly delivered on the adage, “go big or go home.” With no beer less than 8% ABV and a unique draft list on both Saturday and Sunday dedicated to barleywine and old ale, I’m sure many people ended up going home earlier than planned. Luckily, I was not among them and I got to try my fair share of excellent beer on Saturday night with a few friends. Served in 4 oz pours the beers in my glass were as follows:

Sierra Nevada Hoptimum, Dogfishead Immort 1999, Brooklyn Monster 2006, White Birch Oak Aged Tripel, Mikkeller To Via From, Stone Highway 78 Collaboration, Bear Republic Barrel Aged Barleywine 2009, Goose Island Brown Goose

A very impressive list, and I also had sips of almost everything else offered…but the two that stood out for me were the Immort 1999 and Monster 2006. After a few rounds the tastes of dark fruit, bourbon barrels, and hops overwhelmed my taste buds and the warmth from the alcohol shifted my attentions from the beer to conversation so I’ll leave the reviews to others. However, I was still not ready to “go home.” In fact I was ready to “go dancing.”

Thanks Mugs.
