Beer Review: Stone Brewing Co.’s Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale

Stone Brewing Co. – Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale

Beer Description – “ This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory — maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.” – http://www.stonebrew.com/

Beer Style: American Strong Ale

My Feedback:
I have had Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, and even Lucky Bastard; why not try Oaked Arrogant Bastard from Stone.  This beer poured a dark ruby brown color with a nice layer of head around a snifter glass.  First off like most Stone beers on the nose I had a strong hop presence and after letting it sit for a little I got some earthy vanilla malts. The taste was amazing, smooth; sweet the oak comes through to create a well balanced beer. This beer is easy to drink, a tad bit sweet and the hops were mellower compared to the regular Arrogant Bastard. This is a good example of how the presence of oak can really change the complexity of a beer.  I wonder what the next addition to the bastard series will be.

Serving Type: 12oz Glass Bottle

Cheers!
