May is Bike to Work Month and Coeur d’Alene Idaho Has a Bike to Work Week

by Hoppy Girl on May 4, 2012

The City of Coeur d’Alene Parks Department is encouraging cyclists to ride every day of Bike to Work Week. All area bike shops will give free bicycle check-ups starting May 1st and continuing through Bike to Work Week.

Monday, May 14th: Kick-Off Ride. Here’s our chance to show we support cycling in force. The ride starts at 7:30 am at Riverstone Park. We will ride down Northwest Boulevard (with a police escort) and end at the Coeur d’Alene Library.

Wednesday, May 16th: Movie Night/Scottish Beer Tasting. Pilgrim’s Market on 4th Street is showing the movie The Flying Scotsman at 6:00 pm, preceeded by beer tasting.

Friday, May 18th: Moonlight Ride. On Friday night we will be organizing a night ride! Join us at Vertical Earth in Riverstone at 9pm. We will ride 20 miles round trip from Vertical Earth to Higgins Point along the lake shore following the Centennial Trail. Bring a light!

Saturday, May 19th: Roots Pursuit. Participants will compete in a team bicycle event consisting of a series of challenges located throughout downtown Coeur d’Alene. Teams complete as many challenges as they can within a two hour time limit. Event starts at 10:00 am. Get more information and register here.

Saturday, May 19th: Awards Ceremony. We will have a “Finish Line” wrap-up celebration at the Community Garden on Foster and 10th street at 12:00 pm. We will be raffling off prizes to anyone on a bike (and wearing a helmet!) and awarding trophies to participating area businesses for encouraging their employees to Bike to work.

All Week (Mon-Fri): You’ve Been Caught. We will have a Ped/Bike Member riding around town every day of the week to try and “catch’ you riding your bike. If we catch you we will give you a ticket redeemable in the Coeur d’Alene Parks Department for a free “Bike Coeur d’Alene” shirt.
